The Savoy Family Cajun Band, Princes St Gardens Spiegeltent, Edinburgh Jazz and Blues Festival

Not a faux 'family', but mother, father and two sons playing together.  Dual (and duelling) fiddles, single row button accordion and French lyrics - the trademarks of Cajun music from Lousiana.  It comes from a long folk tradition, mixing influences from all over the world, but always with a clear French sound, and primarily intended as dance music.

It certainly gets the feet tapping and the body moving.  All four demonstrate good voices, with younger brother Wilson the standout.  His piano solos were also a strong feature of the performance, but fiddles and accordion had their moments, while mum Ann provided ever changing rhythmic backing on the guitar.  There's plenty of humour too, and they take time to introduce the numbers and explain the stories behind them, relating them to the history of the music and Cajun tradition.

Great fun, joyous, and a cultural exchange belter.
