A 7 piece band playing 40s style jazz, early rock and roll and a bit of boogie woogie. Simple melodies, a straightforward and familiar format to each number. Competent, unimaginative, but fun. The lead vocalist is excellent, and the solos can be enjoyable, notably from bass and trumpet. The eponymous Red Stripe is a fine pianist, and showman, but his singing left me wanting less.
But this is a band based more on entertainment than music and they certainly get the audience with them. The humour might be a bit forced at times, but the desire to please is genuine enough, and certainly preferable to the po faced approach too many take to show how 'serious' they are.
Not for the jazz aficionado, but Red Stripe serves a definite niche.
